In July this year, confronting images of the heavily eroded Wamberal Beach swept the news. The sand dunes that backs onto the coastal street was subject to an east coast low and a severe storm which wreaked havoc on the homes of Wamberal Beach. The media captured the devastating effect that the erosion caused to the structural integrity and safety of these beach houses. One particular structure was featured.
At first glance it appears that the house is in danger of collapsing down the sand dune, however behind the eroded sand dune are concrete piles up to 13.8m deep which support the residence. In 2002, Izzat designed this home considering coastal erosion effects for a 50 year period. Despite the recent erosion the residence experienced virtually no damage.
