Pokolbin Rammed Earth Residence
Location: Pokolbin, NSW
Completed: 2012

New two storey rammed earth residence with lap pool. Structural design and documentation of the load bearing rammed earth wall structure complete with steel and timber framed first floor and roof.
The roof form required an innovative framing system. The roof shape mimics a rectangle that has been pushed in at the ends to rise up at middle. Every rafter is the same length, but has a different slope.
Site specific challenges included a highly reactive clay site requiring a piled raft slab foundation to prevent future movement damage of the rammed earth walls.
Construction inspections were carried out at critical stages. The project was completed in 2012.
This project was featured as the cover project of Bluescope’s Steel Profile Magazine (Issue 117, May 2014).
