Izzat carried out the Structural and Civil Engineering design for this duplex residence located at the Southern End of Boomerang Beach. Due to predicted coastal erosion, most of the site could potentially be washed away. To combat this, the house sits upon large piled footings designed for wave impact. In addition to coastal erosion and wave forces, site challenges included topographically enhanced wind loads and a highly corrosive marine environment.
Construction materials include CFA piles, reinforced concrete support system below sand level, reinforced block work for the garage and anchoring structure. The house itself is sheet and timber framed with large areas of glazing which required intricate structural detailing.
The project was successfully completed in 2004.
